Most "bugs" people report are the product working. Check below before emailing — it's faster for you and less smug for us.
"It keeps interrupting my checkouts"
Correct. That is the entire product. The countdown, the essay box, the locked button, the face that shakes when you try to click through early — all deliberate. If you want a specific checkout to go through: write your reason, wait out the timer, press the red button, and live with it. We'll be watching. Politely.
"The extension isn't popping up"
- Check the extension is ON — click the face in your toolbar; the switch is top-right.
- It only appears on pages that look like a checkout — product pages stay quiet until you head for the till.
- It deliberately never appears on NHS, pharmacy, government or utility sites. Medicine is not impulse spending.
- Just updated? Visit
chrome://extensionsand hit the reload arrow on the really? card. - Still nothing? Email us the exact page address where you expected judgement and didn't get it. That's the one thing we need.
"How do I install it?"
The install page has the sixty-second version: download, unzip,
chrome://extensions, Developer mode on, Load unpacked, pick the folder. Chrome Web
Store listing is on its way, which will reduce this to one button.
"How do I cancel?"
Easily, and without a guilt trip — we save those for checkouts:
- Open the Stripe billing portal from any receipt email and cancel there; or
- Email beatthealgo@getreally.app with the word "cancel". That's it. You keep access to the end of your billing year.
- Within your first 14 days? You get a full refund by law and by us not arguing.
"How do I claim the Beat the Algorithm challenge?"
Hit your goal within 3 months (set within your first week, progress in your dashboard), share the win publicly with a tag, then email us the link within 14 days. Full conditions are in the terms, section 7. Choose your £49 back or an extra year free. We pay out with genuine delight and mild statistical surprise.
"How do I delete my data?"
- Extension only: uninstall it. All local data dies with it, unmourned.
- Account and synced events: email us from your account email with "delete my data" and we erase the lot within 30 days, usually much faster.
- Waitlist: same email, same result.
"The overlay looks washed out / grey"
Usually a dark-mode extension (Dark Reader and friends) or Chrome's "auto dark mode" flag repainting the page. We armour against it, but if the warning label looks faded, try disabling those for the shop in question — and tell us where you saw it so we can armour harder.
"Something is actually broken"
It happens; we're judgemental, not infallible. Email beatthealgo@getreally.app with:
- What you did, what you expected, what happened instead;
- The page address, if it involves a specific shop;
- A screenshot — one screenshot outranks three paragraphs;
- Anything red under the Errors button on
chrome://extensions.
